Primary Restoration Associated with the T/V Margara Grounding

CMT was contracted as a subcontractor on this award winning project to perform the primary restoration efforts associated with the T/V Margara ship grounding in Puerto Rico. The objective of this first phase of a two-phase restoration program was to rebuild the reef’s natural topographic complexity and stabilize impacted rubble areas resulting from the grounding event. Leveraging a multidisciplinary team of engineers, environmental specialists, marine operators, and commercial divers, CMT provided a complete turnkey solution. Our engineering team developed the restoration design, while our environmental professionals secured all required federal and local permits. Restoration activities were then executed by our experienced marine operations and commercial diving teams. The project successfully restored approximately 1,132 square meters of damaged reef habitat. Restoration measures included the strategic placement of large limestone boulders to recreate the site's natural reef structure, along with the installation of concrete to stabilize both the boulders and unconsolidated rubble. Through this comprehensive approach, CMT enhanced habitat stability and supported the long-term recovery of this valuable marine ecosystem.
